We detail the advances in cell-to-pack designs on page 64, a new design for cells and packs on page 6 as well as battery monitoring technologies on page 32. The vast majority of battery packs are based on lithium-ion technology, but other chemistries are emerging as contenders. We explore the advantages of sulphur for high energy density applications, from construction equipment to electric aircraft, on page 56. Despite the collapse of leading sulphur battery technology developer Oxis Energy last year, laboratories around the world are finding new ways to extend the cycle time of sulphur batteries to 4000 cycles to take on lithium-ion cells. Prototype sulphur cells are being evaluated in the US before volume production, and research in Europe is showing a route to eliminating lithium altogether from the battery cell.
